Celebrating Reconciliation Week

This week students have learned of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture through the theme ‘Don’t Keep History a Mystery’. Today, DET Regional Director, Mr Stephen Gniel, officially opened the Wominjeka Centre and Learning Stone. Wurundjeri elder, Ian Hunter, conducted the Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. Guests enjoyed meaningful performances, student speeches, art displays and a morning tea prepared by students. Respect and understanding is fostered through learning of indigenous stories and experiences and students will participate in ‘The Long Walk’ as part of the AFL’s Dreamtime at the ‘G and the annual Central Australia community service camp.

Great News – Future Health and Wellbeing Centre!

The College is extremely fortunate to have been promised capital works funding by both the Labour party – $1.3 Million and Liberal party – $1.1 million, respectively, in their budgets which guarantees the building of the College’s ‘Health & Wellbeing Centre’ that will not only provide care facilities for the College’s students and staff, but ultimately the wider community.

A valuable investment and resource for City of Casey students and families and wider community to help prevent family violence and educate the community on mental health issues .

Leadership Induction Assembly

We formally recognised our students who have been successful in achieving a leadership position this year in a whole school assembly.

Thank you to Brad Battin MP, Member for Gembrook for attending and challenging our students to have the leadership and courage to ask ‘R U OK’ if they notice someone who might be struggling.

All student leaders were wished the very best  in their journey of leadership and service to our College.

We are looking forward to meeting our 2018 students tomorrow…

The staff have been busily preparing for the year ahead over the past few days –  and C5 has been refurbished, four new classrooms installed, including a Science, Food Tech classroom and grounds are looking terrific thanks to our Maintenance team.

Just a reminder that students should not be dropped off at the top staff car park as this is extremely unsafe. Please be patient at pick up and drop off times – it does take a few days for the flow of traffic entering and exiting the lower parking area to settle.

Also, the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) has opened its enrolment online https://www.vsl.vic.edu.au/Enrol/Default.aspx for the year 2018. On Saturday mornings (9am – 12.20pm) they provide the opportunity to study languages, ranging from Arabic to Turkish, Albanian to Romanian.

Looking forward to a wonderful start tomorrow

We are Victorian Education Excellence Finalists…

Berwick College has been shortlisted for the Victorian Education Excellence Awards 2017 and is delighted to be a finalist in two categories – Outstanding Koorie Education and Outstanding Education Support Team.

For 15 years, the Victorian Education Excellence Awards have highlighted exemplary government school education and innovation in Victoria. The awards recognise our inspirational teachers, principal and support staff who improve the lives of students and go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver outstanding achievements for our students and College.

To be a finalist  in two categories is a great achievement!

A dedicated, independent panel comprising of educational leaders and thinkers are overseeing the judging process. Winners will be announced at an award presentation ceremony on 27th October. Category winners will join an esteemed Roll of Honour and become ambassadors for awards in the future.
