We are Victorian Education Excellence Finalists…

Berwick College has been shortlisted for the Victorian Education Excellence Awards 2017 and is delighted to be a finalist in two categories – Outstanding Koorie Education and Outstanding Education Support Team.

For 15 years, the Victorian Education Excellence Awards have highlighted exemplary government school education and innovation in Victoria. The awards recognise our inspirational teachers, principal and support staff who improve the lives of students and go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver outstanding achievements for our students and College.

To be a finalist  in two categories is a great achievement!

A dedicated, independent panel comprising of educational leaders and thinkers are overseeing the judging process. Winners will be announced at an award presentation ceremony on 27th October. Category winners will join an esteemed Roll of Honour and become ambassadors for awards in the future.

40th Anniversary Celebration – Thursday 19th October 2017

This year, Berwick College is celebrating its 40th Anniversary! We warmly invite our alumni, past staff and leaders of the College to dinner. Share in a 3-course meal (drinks are available to be purchased at bar prices) and reminisce on the proud 40-year history of educating students in the City of Casey.

A special program of activities will include music performances, memorabilia and photo displays. Prior to dinner our College will be open to view student work in the VCE Art and Technology Exhibition – Carole Bullock Gallery. See the physical changes to the grounds and have a photo at your favourite meeting place.

Raffles will be conducted on the night with all funds raised to go towards the future Berwick Community Learning and Support Centre. The proposed Centre will provide health and wellbeing support, and connection to specialist partnerships, for our students, staff, past students, families and members of the community.

If you would like to sponsor an aspect of this event, please let us know.

Flash Back Friday – Our Science Domain

Do you remember donning a lab coat and glasses for the first time? Attending Siemens Summer School? Experiments going awry? The thrill of seeing the mysterious microscopic world? Mastering the safe use of a Bunsen burner (with asbestos mat) and chemicals?

We acknowledge our wonderful Science teachers and Lab Technicians who have enlarged students’ understanding of the world around them. Thousands of practical activities building on students’ innate curiosity. Years of examination, field trips, competitions, dissection, investigations, collecting and analysing data expanding knowledge over the years to foster future scientists, builders, engineers and inventors.

A special mention should be made of Mr Allen who, for 33+ years at Berwick College, (pictured – 50 Years’ Service Award) served in a variety of teaching and leadership roles including supporting the Science Domain until his retirement in 2015.

Flash Back Friday – Our Year 12 Formals

A history of celebration and a highlight of the Year 12 social calendar.

Berwick College has a rich, positive history in bringing staff and students together to laugh, to acknowledge the growth in learning and of course to dance.

A welcome break to the intensity of exam preparation, student academic achievement and endeavour awards are presented by staff, and students present novelty awards to their peers.

The Year 12 formal is a significant milestone. Each Year 12 student shares these special memories of celebration, hard work and the journey through secondary schooling. Reflecting on the night in years to come, students are reminded of old friends and of teachers who cared and supported them through adolescence, toward their learning goals, in preparation for life after school.

Reconciliation Week – In the News

During Reconciliation Week, our College proudly acknowledged Koorie history and culture through students attending the Dreamtime Match at the G and participating in the Long Walk and the City of Casey Flag Raising Ceremony. The Library screened indigenous films and students visited Brentwood and Timbarra Kindergartens. A highlight for our Year 7 students was the presentation with Aunty Marg as she shared her childhood experiences.

The Berwick News yesterday featured our school activities, in particular Holly.
