BERWICK COLLEGE WINS BASKETBALL ACADEMY CHALLENGE

On Friday 28th March Berwick College participated in its first Academy Challenge against Albert Park Basketball Academy. Many of the players parents were there to witness a day of great success.  All our students put their skills to the test and we ended up bringing home the inaugural Academy Challenge trophy.

State 3 on 3 – Wrap Up

Berwick College had 7 boys teams and 6 girls teams compete in the State 3 on 3 competitions over the last week in March. All teams represented Berwick College with distinction.

Through the tournaments 2 teams triumphed with podium finishes. The Intermediate Girls #1 team and Senior Boys #1 team both finished in 3rd position. These were great performances as the students came up against some very strong competition from both government and private schools from across the state.

Two sides that performed brilliantly on the day were the Intermediate Girls #3 team who were a late entry.  These girls came up against girls up to 3 years older and were able to come away with a couple of victories. Finishing the day ranked 15th in Victoria. The Junior Boys #4 team also did brilliantly. They were all year 7’s and only lost 2 games for the day. The first was by 2 points to the eventual State Champs and the other was by 1 point to the team who finished in 3rd position.

Sam Prime Takes On The World

Sam Prime (Year 12) recently represented Australia in her first Australian team at the World Junior Cross Country Championships in March.  Sam was selected into the Australian team after she successfully won the Australian Trials in Canberra that took place in January.  Sam was selected as an athlete in the U20 Women’s Age Group along with three other girls.

Sam competed in Poland for the World Junior Cross Country Championships in conditions that were wet, muddy and icy and it even snowed.  When Sam raced it was -2 degrees, much different from here in Australia where we were experiencing autumn weather.

Sam placed 37th out of 90 competitors in the U20 Women’s Age Group and was the second Australian across the finish line at the World Championships. The Australian U20s team were the eighth fastest in the race.

CONGRATULATIONS SAM – AN AMAZING EFFORT!!!
