The benefits of sport reach beyond the impact on physical wellbeing. Physical activity is vital to the holistic development of young people, fostering their physical, social and emotional health and development. Participation in a sport activity has shown to be a practical tool to engage young people and offers social inclusion, equal opportunities regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability.
Berwick College offers an extensive range of school and inter-school sporting activities to:
- develop individual skills and tactics
- develop an understanding of the importance of health and fitness and how this may be achieved
- develop personal fitness level and positive attitudes towards fitness
- develop an understanding of the human body’s systems in relation to human movement
- develop self-confidence, cooperation and sportsmanship
- foster participation and celebrate achievement in individual and community sports
Students enjoy the use of outstanding, specialist sporting facilities including hockey pitches, tennis courts, netball courts, two court indoor Stadium, fitness gym and access to the City of Casey Athletics Track and Berwick Leisure Centre.
Students can represent the College in a number of interschool sports (listed below) and earn points for their Learning Teams at the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals.
