Absences, Late Arrivals and Early Departures

A signed note from parents is required when a student is absent for a day or part thereof. Absence notes should be handed to the home group teacher upon a student’s return to school.

Students who arrive late to school should also have a note from parents and must sign in with the Attendance Officer in the F9 or C1 Learning Team offices upon arrival.

Students who leave the school early and miss timetabled classes must have a signed note from parents. The note should be shown to the home group teacher at the start of the day and then presented at the relevant Learning Team office when the student officially signs out.

Students who need to depart early due to illness should report to the Health and Wellbeing Centre. The College Nurse will arrange for parents to collect their child from the Health and Wellbeing Centre.

Students are responsible for catching up on missed work. They should ask their teachers about work requirements upon their return to school.

Zone Information

Neighbourhood zones have been set up in the Berwick area to support students and their families by providing guaranteed access to their local government school. Students retain the right to apply for admission to any other government school. Berwick College will consider all applications.

Out of Zone Applications – Along with any application from the primary school, parents must attach a letter supporting their application for “out of zone” enrolment, stating specific reasons that detail why the student should be enrolled at Berwick College, e.g. curriculum, social, emotional considerations.

The Education Training and Reform Act requires that parents of children aged 6 to 17 years old (as of 1 January 2010), ensure that their children attend school regularly. Therefore until the outcome of the school exemption application is known, the child must continue attending school.

The exemption process can take up to two (2) weeks to process and reach a decision.
