This week students have learned of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture through the theme ‘Don’t Keep History a Mystery’. Today, DET Regional Director, Mr Stephen Gniel, officially opened the Wominjeka Centre and Learning Stone. Wurundjeri elder, Ian Hunter, conducted the Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. Guests enjoyed meaningful performances, student speeches, art displays and a morning tea prepared by students. Respect and understanding is fostered through learning of indigenous stories and experiences and students will participate in ‘The Long Walk’ as part of the AFL’s Dreamtime at the ‘G and the annual Central Australia community service camp.
